Tell your members about your business advocacy efforts

One of the major reasons given for joining the Chamber is to support the local organization whose raison d'etre is to advocate for and promote the best interests of the local business community. That, of course, makes a whole lot of sense, especially when the local Chamber actually practices this policy. We certainly hope you do!

Assuming this to be the case, then I have a simple question: Do you communicate your efforts to your membership on a regular basis? ... and, if not, ... Why not? I find it mystifying that, most Chambers have no blog or news update that they use to communicate the advocacy efforts of staff, board members and ambassadors to the membership. How on earth is your membership supposed to know what you are doing to promote local business interests and advocate on the political front unless you tell them? Furthermore, why would you not want to toot your horn about what you are doing for your members? They want to know and they should know.

In addition, wouldn't it be nice for your members to be up to speed when it comes around to membership renewal time -- especially if they are debating whether or not to continue on as members? It's all about retention ... remember!

We have our ultra-simple buzzing application which makes it easy for Chamber staff etc. to broadcast the word. Whatever you use, please do something so your efforts will no longer be a secret!

If you would like some fresh ideas, just give us a call at (805) 201-2881.
