A Simple Media Strategy for Your Chamber ... FREE!

Some things require pure talent ... like falling off an almost stationary bicycle and fracturing the pelvis.   Of course, the talented genius in this case was me and that was a week ago.   Embarrassing and painful, yes, but it does allow more time for research, reflection and writing.

I follow traditional media news items about Chambers of Commerce and, for obvious reasons, I follow Chambers on social media.   As you can imagine, there is much more activity on the latter which made me wonder if contact with traditional media has been pushed aside in favor of posting to social media.   My anecdotal conclusion is that it has.   It looks like glorious technology has replaced traditional press releases to local and regional media.

This is a very bad idea because -- with apologies to a few good editors out there -- local media will print/use almost anything ... especially when it is well-enough written to be used almost word for word.   These organizations lack resources and imagination.   Most are struggling to survive.   So anything that vaguely resembles a story will be used.   Astoundingly, it's just about that simple.

It makes huge sense to take advantage of this and, with minimum effort, freshen up your old press release and re-establish contact with your local and regional media.   There's nothing like a Chamber-generated, member-oriented press clipping to impress current and potential members.
